Filmmaking Workshop with Katie Reeves
Saturday, October 25, 10 AM–1 PM | $20
Learn to tell a story that transcends the selfie and preserve moments that go beyond a snapshot. Imago filmmaker Katherine Reaves will lead a beginning-level filmmaking workshop at Imago Gallery.
Designed for those 18+, this workshop provides the aspiring filmmaker with the basics of film language through practice and doing. Participation requires a smartphone or camera capable of taking video, plus enthusiasm and curiosity.
Although the workshop is designed for beginners, participants should know how to take a selfie and work their phone or camera. The goal is to enable you to take this experience with you to your own projects and provide a starting point to learn more.
Because filmmaking is a time-intensive art form, the session will be limited to 10 people. Each participant will provide footage for a final film that we will edit together on-site as each person shares their experiences in capturing their footage.

Katie Reeves
Reaves is an award-winning digital filmmaker and video artist living in Rhode Island. She earned bachelor’s degrees in the history of art from the University of Michigan and studio art from Rhode Island College. She has an MA in art education from the Rhode Island School of Design.
Trained as a painter, she switched to digital filmmaking when pregnant with her daughter and, over 20 years, has built a body of work encompassing short and feature length documentaries telling the stories of local artists, personages, and non-profit organizations. She also enjoys creating video art works, collaging pieces from vintage footage and her own videography.
After teaching filmmaking for seven years at an arts focused charter high school, Reaves has enjoyed a close association with IFA where she facilitates a film appreciation program, conducts workshops and produces videos celebrating local artists. Her basic art philosophy is that the aesthetic experience is essential and uniquely human. She enthusiastically exclaims,” This table is large, well spread and there is a seat for everyone.”
