What is a salon style exhibit?

Artwork of every size and style, on every subject, stacked up to the ceiling. Salon style art walls are so popular these

days — it's easy to forget that the look has been around for hundreds of years. The origins of this trend is the French

Salon, it marked a democratic turning point, a moment when artists began responding to a public audience rather than

a royal dictate. The most famous Salons were held annually or bi-annually in Paris beginning in 1737, it is named after

the room at the Louvre where the exhibit was held, the Salon Carré, or square room.
